Depression

Every story deserves understanding and care. When you reach out to Mind Kind, we believe in providing professional guidance to nurture your emotional well-being. Let’s walk this path together.

Depression is a biological illness caused by a number of things (inherited genes, stress, illness). These factors change the chemistry in the brain which controls moods, emotions, circadian rhythm & cognition. It is not just a sad mood but rather affects all parts of the body & mind. I like to describe it as looking at life through dark glasses. It affects the way you see yourself, others and the world. It’s a struggle to even get out of bed in the morning. Your body is tired, aching, you can’t sleep properly, find the right words, remember things, concentrate. It’s hard to find joy in things. The world & your life feels hopeless, meaningless. When things get really bad, you may even think the world would be better off without you.

People May Experience:

  • Anxiety, apathy, general discontent, loss of interest and hopelessness
  • Restless sleep, excess sleepiness, early awakening and insomnia
  • Loss of appetite, excessive hunger, fatigue
  • Agitation, excessive crying, irritability and social isolation
  • Weight gain or weight loss

Our Approach

My approach is holistic. I’ll guide you. Initially, you will just put one foot in front of the other. We will go back to basics & get you to start eating better, sleeping well & re-establish some form of a routine. Talk therapy is an essential part of your recovery. We will identify and process stressors, find new positive coping mechanisms and change the way you see yourself and the world. If your depression is severe, we will discuss possible medication and together, choose the appropriate one for you. Medication can change the brain chemistry so you can see yourself & the world through clear glasses again.
